Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
There is a 4 inch port on the DC3300 so I imagine there is on this new one. SS knocks the 4 inch port down to three 2.5 ports but you can always remove the reducer and have a full 4 inch port.
Also the DC 3300 can easily be converted to a cartridge filter. First you need a spacer that fits on the frame like the filter bag does then a filter cartridge. Remember neither the spacer nor the filter are subject to vacuum they are under pressure. So you do need to worry about the cartridge collapsing.

Thank you, I did not know that. I recently got a Planer that would prefer the 4" line. I was trying to determine the best way to support both 4" and 2.5" and thought I would need to do that externally using either a 2:1 or 3:1 connection. This gives me better options.Ed in Tampa wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 2:52 pm There is a 4 inch port on the DC3300 so I imagine there is on this new one. Shopsmith used to sell a 90° elbow (item "F" in pic below) for conversion to 4" ducting, but it isn't available any more unfortunately. It replaces the 3 2.5" port plenum and was Shopsmith part #300003. You can still hook up 4" PVC without it, but it is a bit more clunky.

Another option is to build the octopus like they had at the Shopsmith Academy. It was just a plenum to hook whatever size PVC you wanted up to the DC-3300. Just keep the 3 2.5" hose sections short in length to minimize losses (see link below for picture).

Pages 8-9 of the document below discusses using the 4" Inlet Assembly from Shopsmith on the DC-3300:

Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
There is a reason the 4" elbow is no longer offered. AIUI it does not work well(too low air velocity).

Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
As Red says, the 4" adapter was discontinued as the older dust collector did not have the air flow for larger than a 3" line.

Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
Agreed, but every time I try to point out the shortcomings of the DC-3300, someone comes to defend it here so I figured I would mention the 4" Inlet Assembly. I looked for it before, but could never find a used one anywhere. I have a small shop and was only going to run maybe a 6' or 8' horizontal trunk line to hookup to my DC-3300 with a few tools. I ran the airflow calcs and in theory it would have been fine for such a short duct with only one tool on at a time, but I abandoned this project. The problem for Shopsmith is they are stuck on 2.5" ports when the rest of the industry has migrated to 4" or larger ports. I would happily pay Shopsmith for a new lower saw guard that has a 4" dust port...same for the SPT accessories. Unfortunately, Shopsmith chooses to not offer upgrade options for this for customers (because it doesn't mate well with the DC-3300 in the catalog). I was surprised that the DC-6000 has the same setup with 3 2.5" ports. If it really can flow 600CFM and if 2 of the 3 ports are closed off, it is going to whistle like crazy through that one 2.5" port that is open.

And @ 600 cfm the 4" post likely will work.

Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
I don't think anything will whistle. My ClearVue Max is almost 2000 CFM and I run the 4" port to the PM2000 table saw open all the time and a 2 1/2" port to most other tools, mostly SS. No whistling.RFGuy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 6:01 pmAgreed, but every time I try to point out the shortcomings of the DC-3300, someone comes to defend it here so I figured I would mention the 4" Inlet Assembly. Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
Wow! IF you are getting 2000CFM at that 4" port then that would be 23,000fpm airflow. Maybe it doesn't whistle per se, but that has to be one noisy port with that kind of airflow going through it. The DC-6000 with 600CFM airflow would be around 28,000fpm for comparison.
Did you gate off the 2.5" tools, or is 2000CFM flowing to one 4" and multiple 2.5" ports all at the same time?

Re: New Shopsmith DC-6000 Dust Collector
The ClearVue Max is rated at 1935 CFM. It has an 8" port, a 5 HP Leeson 230V motor and a 16" impeller. Of course you don't get max (1935) CFM through a 4" or 2 1/2" hose. However you get the max the hoses will support. I can leave all ports open (5 0r 6) depending) with no degradation.RFGuy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 29, 2020 6:57 pmWow!
