You can’t use the hardware to clamp the cauls shut without something in the middle for the clamps to push a against, so I pulled the hardware off of one of my 2 footers (for some reason thought I had ordered the three footers but hadn’t) and used some hand screws to clamp the ends.
The picture tells the story. They close up perfectly flat.

To the contrary, they sure are curved when no clamping pressure is applied. The previous photo is with clamps on both ends, which flattens them out. But check out this photo of the cauls without clamping pressure.

Algale, based on your picture of the cauls not clamped and the 1/8” rise per foot mentioned in the original instructions, I would expect a1/4” gap at each end of the cauls. Is that about what they measure? Thanks
