Proud to have served, and glad to know you cared enough to say thanks. That said, those serving now are the ones we should be thankful for and praying for. As a Viet Nam vet, I am very aware that there is a place for supporting them, no matter where we fall in our position on the war. Not always easy, but then neither is what they are being asked to do for us. Thanks again.

I'll second that motion. Thanks to all the Veterans out there who have (and are) serving our Nation.

Thank You for remembering us. I can say it was an honor for me to have served my country from 1966-1969 and I will say a thanks for my son who served in Afghanistan in 2006 and a special thanks for those all over the world serving right now insuring that this great nation will continue to be free.

I want to thank all my fellow veterans both past and present. On a side note,
I can't believe how this country has come 180 degress. Back when dlbristol was serving I know it wasn't easy coming back from Viet Nam. Now the guys/gals coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan are getting welcomed and noticed for thier service.

In my family we have a long-standing family tradition: decorating the graves of my dad (Korea), and grandpas (one in WWII and the other in WWI). We do it every Veteran's Day and Memorial Day. This year we included my wife's side of the family (dad in WWII and uncle killed in the Ardennes in 1944).

Thank you.

Thank you for your quiet and respectful tone. It's like a bandage on a scrape. For Veterans day often scrapes me. People demand I stand up or form up for them to admire, like I'm a trained pet for them to clap at.

Given a choice between a ticker tape parade for what I did, or a quiet thank you, I'll take the quiet thank you. And I thank you for it.

I'm with foxtrapper on this one. Always hated being a puppet. Just the same, the kindness now is not to be compared to the heckles, roughing up and spit we endured returning home. They told us it was not a war, but the fireballs I saw from napalm was not only a conflict, it was life threatening and it looked very much like war. Will never forget those images.

Thank you for thanking us for our service. And, I think that our young men and women in those hills have at least as tough a time as our young brave men did in the hills of Viet Nam. May God keep and bless everyone one of them and their families.

It is my hope that we as a nation have learned a lesson from that time in our history in how we treat are returning military personnel.
