Review of the film.

Post by mikelst »

I got the DVD but couldn't get to it right away. Now that I have had a chance to view it I thought I'd pass on my thoughts.

First a 'disclaimer'
I am not affiliated with the seller of this product at all. I have no interest in the success or failure of the sales so I am fairly unbiased in my comments.

Also I am sure that ShopSmith would want to distance themselves from some of the practices shown in the film as they had no part in the production or distribution of it.

Some of today's standard safety procedures are not observed in the film and as such it should be viewed only for its novelty and historical value.

Ok I'm done with that.

The set as delivered consist of two disks.

The first disk has three chapters which are actually three films.
1 Introduction. (this is what is shown at the You Tube link)
2 Power Sawing.
3 Drilling and Drill Press operations.

The second disk has four chapters.
1 Lathe Operations
2 Power Sanding
3 Spray Finishing
4 Accessory Power Tools (this includes the Jointer, Jig Saw, Horizontal Spindle, Wire brushing, Bounded abrasive wheel, Buffing)

I enjoyed these DVD’s immensely. It was fun to see the way the Shopsmith MK 5 was displayed and promoted in its earliest days, and while the films are displayed as a training tool it is also obvious that it was a sales pitch. The DVD’s are broken down into Chapters, each of which was an independent film back in the day.
