Kindergarten Block Set

Post by berry »

Not much wood working here but I hope the kids like them. I made two sets for the children of a niece and nephew. Southern yellow pine left over from a friends remodeling project (and a bit of Doug Fir because I ended up short). SWMBO will make a bag to carry and store. I finished with a couple coats of Emmet's Good Stuff This is a food safe product for butcher block cutting tables.

Nice job! My wife wants one but she wants it attached to a wall to save floor space. Could you work on that for me? ;)

Nice job!

One of my favorite toys was a set of "Rainy Day Blocks" my grandfather made for us kids.

They were called "rainy day blocks" as the only time we were allowed to play with them was on rainy days when we were trapped inside. (Which actually made them even more special for us kids)

First of all, a big "THANK YOU" to all who have shared your projects!
This is my main Santa project for this year....The lovely wife wants some bookcases, and decided she would like to try a set of Barrister style. Soft maple, because it's what I can get locally and because I like working it. Anyway, a very fast forward start to closer-to-finished.

Basic materials:

Jigsaw puzzle:

One assembled module:

Stacked together:

I'm very happy SWMBO is understanding and is not going to get in a tizzy because Santa will be finishing the project late :)

Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to everyone!

Bud

Building Blocks

Berry:

Nice job on the blocks!

I'm sure they will be enjoyed for a long time.

This is a good and valuable way to use scraps.

As far as I am concerned, that is good woodworking. It doesn't have to be complex to be a nice project. I've been thinking about making a couple of set similar to this for my two oldest grandsons. I really like the story of them being "rainy day" blocks. I may steal that idea, too.
