Well not much actual work got accomplished today. I did get started blocking up the melamine just to get it out of the way before I start on the door rush job. After getting starting I made the mistake of going on a short shopping trip with the wife. At least I had her drop me off at Big Orange and Woodcraft.

The sticky notes are to identify the parts later. At this point I am blocking everything up at least 1 inch larger than the finished size. I will go back with a sharp melamine blade and engage the scoring blade for the final sizing.

What I find funny here is that amidst all this industrial equipment and activity I see a pen turning jig hooked into that massive lathe in the background. I don't know why, but it cracks me up. You rock.mbcabinetmaker wrote:

Oh no! Rush job!
This is going to call for one of those shop improvement projects that I have been putting off. Check in there if you want to follow along.

I still have a mini in the back room waiting for a caster repair. I set up on the copy lathe to speed up the process of turning 40 pens. It has work out well especially with the addition of a dust collector hood from PSI that I rigged up so I may leave it set up unless I need to turn something else.

Hi Mark,
Long time no comment here. I'm sure you're aware of this but better safe than sorry. I've had the experience of large full size patterns being somewhat dimensionally unstable visa vis humidity. Check 'em before you mark out.
Yea, I'm dead sure you wouldn't miss something like that.

Yes Paul I have already discovered that the pattern for the header piece is not even close to the radius of the doors. Good thing I just thought to hold the door template up to it before I started cutting. I am modifying things a bit anyway because the draftsman drew everything up with those sharp corners and while that is certainly a nice look the customer did not want to pay for all the hand work that would be involved so we are making them work with a standard router bit set up.

That the one you 'redrilled', or did you let that one go?

Yes that is the one. It was the nicest of all so I kept it. One of the rods on the casters keeps coming out on on one end. I think it just needs an adjustment but I haven't taken the time to check it out.

Hope it is a missing pin, not a busted casting.mbcabinetmaker wrote:Yes that is the one. It was the nicest of all so I kept it. One of the rods on the casters keeps coming out on on one end. I think it just needs an adjustment but I haven't taken the time to check it out.
BTW anybody ever find/figger out why they changed to the screws in the end of the cam shaft?
