This downdraft box hangs below the way tubes and takes up the wasted space between the carriage table tubes. I only have a SS3300 dust collector, so it doesn't work perfect, but it helps keep the top of the cabinet cleaner.

What size are the holes in the top of the down draft box? I have a cabinet under my SS already, and I may incorporate a down draft.

I love the idea of storing SPT and others accessories on the backside. I have been toying with the idea of under carriage storage for a few months and I had never considered the possibility of building up on the back.
One question, would the support of the upper back not be stronger if extended all the way down ? Seems the self holding the band saw would be a little top heavy. Perhaps there is support that I can't see.

The holes are 1/4 and chamfered. I don't know much about building downdrafts. Just guessed at 1/4 and thought I could always make them larger. It works OK for my small DC. Someone here probably has better info on the downdraft box.

Yes, it would be much stronger if the back extended all the way up. I didn't know when I built the bottom box, I'd have room to store all the SPT's up and behind. They were hanging on the wall behind the SS before.
I added the piece on with biscuits and used shelf brackets on the front side to make it strong enough.

As you know, I was really inspired by Cory's design... so I decideed to build my own version Under ShopSmith Storage cabinet.
I modified Cory's design slightly but I want to give credit where due for sure! Cory came up with most of these ideas. (thanks a bunch!!)
I wanted to try my hand at Cabinet building skills... so I started by making the basic face frame and carcase design. I put it on wheels and added a drawer between the casters. I also wanted to add a top drawer to maximize space that wasnt being used. there is 1/16" of clearance between the bottom tubes and the top of the drawer.
I have one drawer installed... resawed the lumber to do the rest of the drawers and am working on planing that stock to thickness...

I WELCOME any other suggestions or ideas.... As of now I can say that if this were anything other than a workshop cabinet, I would have wished for better plywood. Although, this is about as cheap as a cabinet can get.
Faceframe, drawer components, and drawer fronts is free wood resawn from 4x12 sheet metal skids
Plywood carcase is HD Cull lumber - $6
Casters were leftover freebies that I had sitting around my shop.
Hardware investment for the tee nuts mounting the casters is about $1.20.
so far - pretty affordable... oh, and the pocket hole jig(s) I needed anyhow. I had the machinists at work "make" me one from .75" x 1.50" x 5" CRS...and then I found a General Hardware Deluxe PocketHole jig at HD for 1/2 price... I dont know HOW it got into the cart... mustve jumped!
