Shopsmith Demo in Tampa Feb 2-4

I just got a flyer in the mail about a Shopsmith Demo going to held here in Tampa Feb 2-4 at Lowes on 6275 West Waters Ave. Between 10Am and 7 pm

If anyone is interested Roberts Saw is real close so if you go the demo you can drop off any blades that need sharpening. Also Grainer supply is near by if you have any parts you need to pick up. Lastly Dewalt/Porter Cable/ Black and Decker repair and outlet is near by also so if you want to pick up any parts or drills or bits.

I would call Roberts Saw first to see how busy they are and if they will be open any of the dates.

Let me know I intend to go, God willing and the creek don't rise. Maybe we can meet up for coffee or lunch and swap shop stories.

I hope they come to the Pensacola region just a bit later. Looking forward to seeing another demo as it's been so long, I can't remember what I saw demo'd more than 30 years ago.

I plan on dropping by the demo at the Lowes in the Casselberry/ Fern Park part of Orlando on Sunday after lunch.

The demo has been scheduled for Friday through Sunday, 10:00 am -7:00 pm.

Plan is Bill Mayo, Jim Caudwell and myself are meeting at Lowes a little before the 10 AM Demo on Friday Feb 3 starts.

Demo Trip Report
Went to the Demo yesterday met Jim Cadwell and Bill Mayo.
Dave Forkerth did the Demo here is what I saw and my impressions.

I noticed two things about the PowerPro
First how quiet it was
Second how smooth it ran.

The sales emphasis was on power citing the 1 3/4 on 110 and full 2 hp on 220The other emphasis was not having to crank the speed selector up and down to change speed.

My thoughts; my current SS has all the power I need to do what ever I want on it so the power factor is not important to me.
I like the speed range of the Pro both the very low and very high however I rarely ever use either extreme in my woodworking.

I liked the Mark 7 ability to tilt from either end but since I have a router table I wonder how often I would use the left tilt function.

I watched other people that came to the demo and most were very impressed with the machine. However when they asked the price and was told it was nearly $4000 they went wow and walked away.

Overall if the PowerPro sold for about $1000 I would buy one not because I needed it but because I wanted it. At the current cost I can't talk myself into it.

On the Mark 7, if I was just getting into wood working and looking to set up a shop the $4000 price tag would send me looking else where.

It was real nice spending time with Bill and Jim, after the demo we went to a Nearby Dunkin Donut and solved the World's Problems over coffee and donuts.
