some accessories I am not familiar with...

Post by rele »

pretty newb here, as I said I used this Shopsmith as a child a lot, but it mainly consisted of lathe work and band saw, which was what my grandpa used mostly, however upon receiving all this there are some stuff I have no idea about and was hoping you kind folks could put a name to them and their uses...

The first picture is of a miter gauge that has been equipped with an auxillary fence (used for cross cuts).

The second picture is of a shaper fence. Mounts to main table using two bolts (through holes in main table).

The third picture is of a stop rod used with the miter gauge.

Pic #1: Miter gauge. Unlike most other miter gauges, the SS uses a pistol grip handle with a clamp that will hold the workpiece. This is safer, keeping your hands further from the blade and the workpiece secure. Yours also has a face extension to easier handle longer pieces.

Pic #2: This is the drum sander and shaper fence. It clamps to the table and gives you a fence when using a drum sander attachment or using the SS as a shaper.

Pic #3: I'm not sure what the flat bar is, but the round bar is a stop rod for use with the miter gauge. This is so you can make repeating cuts of exactly the same length.

This picture shows the miter gauge and stop rod being used.

Pic #4: In the center is the miter slot extension. It lengthens the miter slot giving you a little bit more room at the front of the table.
