From a 505/510 probably not, from a 500 there are other advantages even without the tablesaw. The hand-crank can be used with the lathe to adjust the tool-rest, with the drill press to position the table. Its bin years since I did the upgrade from the 500 so it is hard to remember all the differences.

Yes and I have almost every one except Radial Arm Saw plus a reciprocal saw and most of them are battery opperated.

I can't really comment on the 510/520 versus a 500 because I've only ever had a 510 but I find that I use the table saw function quite a bit. I even built one of the support jigs that somebody one here designed (very helpful). However, I have found that I use the table saw most when making rip cuts. Before I inherited the Shopsmith I did everything with a circular saw, so I often grab that for cross cuts and cutting large sheets of plywood. Call me a creature of habit.

I decided to get to know my 500 really good before doing any upgrade. My tendency has been to buy things I don't fully use, or buy things before I need them, and I want to change the way I function. I did order some DVDs from the Shopsmith website to learn all I can about my 500--would like to learn how to tear it down and then put it back together. Thanks for all the helpful posts on this thread.
