Can anyone tell me what FedEx SmartPost is all about.

I am waiting for an Idler Shaft Assembly that was supposedly in Phoenix (120 miles away) two days ago. Now when I use the tracking number to track the package - it has been handed over to FedEx SmartPost and I am still waiting.

By snooping around on google I find some indication the USPS is involved. What gives. I have never seen this before.

I am sure thankful that I am not in dire need of that Idler Shaft.

This is where Fedex has the USPS handle the delivery (the last leg of transit). From the FEDEX website:

Thanks for the explanation. This is my first experience and so far it is not favorable. My package has been within 120 miles of me now for two days (this being the third). That is, in my opinion, rather slow moving.

In the past, when FedEx tracking reported it in Phoenix, I had it the next day.

As stated before, I am thankful that I do not really need it. I would be hopping mad if I did.

Once fedup gives it to the USPS, you'll have it quickly.

Well ya got that wrong. The hold up is with fedup.

Something is wrong, usually FedEx transfers it to USPS within 24 hours and then the USPS has 48 hours to deliver it (not including weekends). I would contact FedEx and see what the issue is. My experience is FedEx is very responsive.

Maybe I am just not as patient as I should be. My package arrived in the mail (delivered by USPS) today. I think that was one day longer than it would have been if delivered by FedEx.

This is probably done because someone has shown it to be less expensive. The postman comes by here every day (package or no package) while FedEx only comes past my house if he has a package in this area. Theory: Fewer miles = less cost. My impatience doesn't count. Get over it.

When Shopsmith (finally) shipped my Powerpro it listed as being in Phoenix a few days before my delivery date. I contacted FedX and they said it would be in Tucson early but I could not pick it up early unless I wanted to pay an extra $80.00:mad: I figured it was already running way later than it was supposed to and I already spent around $300. in shipping. I waited. FedX explained that they shipped stuff as was best for them. If they let everyone pick things up "early" then no one would pay extra for the expidited shipping.

This may or may not have anything to do with your situation. My guess would be that it is probably a FedX hold up.

Well, I'll rant about this. I am fed up with FedEx and UPS as they ship stuff all over the country before it gets to me. The good old US mail is so much more efficient and cheaper. Just one story of cookies sent from Pensacola to Thomasville, GA (just 35 miles north of Tallahasssee). Sent them UPS thinking they would be cheap and fast. So wrong. UPS sent them to Montgomery, AL, then to some podunk town north of Atlanta, then back down to Valdosta (at least nearby) and it only took a week. Everything I've sent to the same destination via Post Office is 3 days max. SS sends me parts by FedEX, takes at least a week, Post Office would be 4 or 5 days and cheaper. End of my rant.
