Grit Count

Post by Charlie »

Is the "grit count" of sandpaper the same as the "grit count" of a grinding wheel? In other words, is 80 grit sandpaper the same as an 80 grit grinding wheel? I'm making an assumption that they are the same but I don't know.

Hi Charlie,
I went to wikipedia to investigate your inquiry. Although the grit may be measured the same way, as far as the size of the grain, the two products are not really comparable as they work somewhat differently and the way they are bonded is different. You can read about this yourself at these links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandpaper ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_wheel .

I hope this helps.:)
