Need info on vintage Model ER
I've inherited a Shopsmith Model ER from my Dad. I see a lot of references to Model 10 ERs but this is just Model ER. I think it's from the 50's and it is huge. It was made, of course, by the Magna Engineering Corp in San Francisco, when they didn't even have a patent number for it yet ("patent applied for"). I have a very interested buyer but have no idea what I should ask for it. It was used very little, mostly to make a few picket fences, but has some rust on the big cylindrical bars. I would be interested to hear from anyone who can give me more information about everything this machine does besides cut, and what its value is. I know the manual must be around somewhere but I haven't found it yet!
You probably won't find a value on here. This board is focused on preserving and using the machines. Since it is a Shopsmith owned board, most here try to honor their commitment to us board members by not giving values or using the board as a sales tool.terrymoline wrote:I've inherited a Shopsmith Model ER from my Dad. Your best bet is to look at Ebay, Craigslist and do some internet searching.

I did lots of research on the internet before I found this forum. Nobody sells something this heavy on ebay. I really don't mean to use the board as a sales tool, but want some education on what I have. I wonder why it's simply a Model ER and not 10 ER. By the way, I am female and have no use or space for this Shopsmith (in fact it scares me), although I have fond memories of brushing the sawdust off it when I was eight years old.

Look on Ebay with the completed listing option checked in the advanced tab. People do sell them on Ebay, but they sell them as Pickup Only. You could also try Search tempest which searched multiple craiglist markets.
Unless you have all the accessories and hard to parts, you probably aren't looking at much money. You're better off finding someone you think will take good care of it and not sell it for scrap.

I have one... got it under similar circumstances. It was the lady's Grandfather's and then her Father's machine. My promise was to give it a good home and refurbish it. Good luck!
