throw two rulers-- squares, that is?
each with a blade long enough to span the tube span. One with the short arm (vertically) against the rear tube, the other with the short arm (vertically) against the front tube. Where the short arm "intersects" the other long arm is the precise measurement of the tubes' outer width, no?

When I installed my first Lift-Assist (a name that demands using full words, I note) the outfeed side of the tiebar (under which is the set screw) popped up off the headrest about 1/4". It had been sitting on the rest. This With the tiebar closed.

I am aware of this adjustment and things are sliding smoothly already. That doesn't mean it couldn't be improved and I will try to experiment this weekend.

I have done two things this morning that seem to have altered this problem maybe toward resolution.

I noticed that the Headrest was not square with the Bench Tube Lock Bar at the Headrest end and I disconnected the lift assist cylinder. I then squared the Headrest with the tubes.

I then checked the distance between the Way Tubes and Bench Tubes as before and there is only 3/64" difference between the infeed and outfeed sides. Significantly better.

I've got to use it this way for a day or two before I reattach the lift assist.

I am more convinced than ever that this problem is a NO PROBLEM with the dual tilt. Furthermore, I can't help but wonder way there are no ribs to control positioning of the headrest assembly on the bench tubes.

Maybe it is time to read the original assembly instructions to see what I missed if anything. Back when I bought my Mark V this part all came preassembled.

If this makes the problem go away, I may have a lift assist kit for sale.

I don't know if these measurements add anything to this discussion, but I though I'd see how my 510 lines up.

I have a 24" vernier caliper that is made of aluminum and from China, so it's not a Starrett measuring instrument or anything close, but it will measure to 1/128". Here's an example of the caliper -- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007Q2F5WS/ref ... B007Q2F5WS

Right back - 5 106/128
Right front - 5 106/128
Left back - 5 126/128
Left front - 5 121/128

Actually, I measured to the outside of the way and bench tubes and then subtracted the diameter of the two tubes (3 1/2") from what I got. So, the greatest difference between the way and bench tubes was 20/128" or 5/32"
