Bandsaw Blades

Anyone use any other brand of bandsaw blades?
Oh...and what length are the ones we buy from SS.

I'm looking for an local alternative to use.

Hi,

As for blades I like it depends on what I want them to do. For green wood and for re-sawing I like the ones from Highland woodworking, the wood slicer I have for both of my bandsaws. All of my other blade needs seem to be best served by timber wolf.

Everyone has their own favorites. Everyone has their price points. Good luck looking at this post and guessing who is right, if anyone.

The only non-Shopsmith band saw blade in my inventory is a 1/2" Woodslicer from Highland. It is extremely good at what it does - RESAW.

All of my other blades are Shopsmith. The Shopsmith resaw blade (6 or 8tpi) performs well but results in a rough cut that needs to be surfaced planed or sanded. It probably does exactly what it was designed to do.

Use the right tool for the job. For some reason they always seem to perform better.

Lowe's sells a couple of bandsaw blades that will fit the Shopsmith. They are by Bosch at 72 1/2" long in 1/4" and 1/8" widths and they're under $9 each.

I use a Lenox bi-metal 4 TPI blades to resaw mesquite. I'm satisfied with the cut quality. I am NOT satisfied with how fast it dulls. But then, it is mesquite.

I've some desert ironwood that's likely harder than mesquite and have the same problem with blades dulling. I guess the only real answer is a carbide tipped bandsaw blade, but they're expensive at a bit over $100 for Lenox 72" blade that will fit the Shopsmith.

Youv'e got that right, Art.
Found any blade that retains it's sharpness longer than others? That is aside from carbide tipped.
