The current status of of Brutus, my 10ER.

As of now I have spent 1 week doing the tedious process of doing a proper tear down and detailed cleaning and cataloging. I started with the motor. I removed it from its mount and tore it apart. Using compressed air, a vacuum, my wife's toothbrush, I got the aesthetically pleasing results I was hoping for. I also removed bearings and greased them up and repacked. I then turned my attention from the removal of physical debris removal to the electro-mechanical side.

I desired to keep the phenolic switching board inside the casing but replace ALL old wiring with some teflon jacketed 12 conductor. I replaced the switch with a SPST lit Toggle with a bump guard. The prime power is an 18 foot 3 conductor that could withstand above average wear and tear. After reassembly of the motor and the basic wiring hook up it was time to bench test the motor.
with great excitement I plugged in. I grabbed the switch and I ate 115VAC. This was foreshadowing. After I quit shuttering I daintily grabbed the switch again and it

NOTHING. Absolutely nothing happened, not even a hum. I get the Multimeter(MM) out. I first check to see if I have power, I did. I then checked the switch, It worked. So in my small walnut size brain I thought about the start up capacitor. I pulled off its bezel, discharged it and applied probes. There was my failure. A quick running to a place in Dayton which is a Mecca called Mendelsons(it is online. It is 3 stories tall. It carries anything and everything. I mean everything from nixie tubes to anything component related to Geiger counters. check it out.)
I digress. Go home with new capacitor and apply it. I again setup the bench test. I cautiously grab the switch and ..........Viola. it started to work and hum. I did 3 days of duration test to check for proper RPM, thermals, and vibration. I was also waiting for the MTBF(mean time between failures) I had none. I also hot switch the motor a dozen or more times to see if if I could introduce a failure. It never happened. please understand this was just a bench test. I have to then suspend the motor in its proper position(upside down) to finalize this chapter but I am confident I will screw it up. here are some time lapse pics of the motor and then a video of motor running.
Actually I am a liar. The pix will have to wait so I can size them down a bit.
If anyone is interested I will report back about what I did to test and complete this portion of my progress.

Do realize that oxygen is dispersed at the other electrode!:D

I do run mine outdoors! I prefer evaporust for the tubes/posts.
