Good news!!
I found out what the problem was with my fence. The first thing was that I needed to back out (all the way) the two adjustment screws on either side of the knob. The second problem I had was - the knob and rail piece were bolted down crooked in relation to the fence. I loosened up the already kinda loose bolts, squared up the rail support, tightened the bolts.
Boy - what a difference that made! Fence works as advertised - and yes, I proceeded to make allot of sawdust!
