I have a suggestion- have you considered LEDs? I've completely changed over to an all LED home. They use far less energy than anything else to my knowledge. I'm not sure I want to get into a discussion of discrete electronic components. Diodes are typically for lower voltage applications whereas the term rectifier is used for power supplies which consists of as little one or more diodes. Hence the terms half wave, full wave, and bridge rectifiers… <yawn> The words are interchangeable for all intents & purposes.

LEDs will most likely outlive us unless we experience an EMP, lightning, or perhaps someone wielding a baseball bat. Initially expensive, but over time will pay for themselves- depends on how long you plan to stay or you simply take them with you.

NOW YOU TELL ME! After I have purchased 4 Fluorescent fixtures at a total cost of $60 and finished partial installation. Where where you when I really needed you to know that I could have save $10 over the next 15 years (which may well be the time of my demise)?

Tony, I'm looking for something that has more energy because I seem to be running out. When you get to be 90 you will understand that. If I were 100 years younger I would look at LEDs and I think your suggestion is a good one considering the cost/crap of what else is available.

I noticed that the cost of an 18" 15W replacement tube has increased from $1 (2006) to $9 (2013). What's up with that?

Copy that. You can buy a heck of a lot electricity for the money saved by using fluorescents over LEDs in the short term. I whole heartedly agree. I haven't been paying much attention to the forum as I've been busy with other 'life issues'.

But one thing I did was spend 6 hours with Bill Mayo on Valentine's Day! <Smile> I was down in Florida & didn't realize the date.

I've used short fluorescent bulbs under the cabinets in our kitchen. They were easy to wire. I simply mounted them to the bottom of the cabinets and then used a thin piece of wood to cover the bottom of the cabinet so it looked flat. It lasted about 10-15 years before I did my changeover.
