Ok revisited the Craigslist listing. Look at the picture - I missed the stack of gold bars that came with it.

At least he could have a PP machine. Whatever the scenario behind this machine's history and why it's being sold, it clearly looks to have seen minimal use and is definitely loaded with a nice array of SPT's...although I'd rather have the free-standing pro planer than the SPT planer. If someone was looking to get set up with a loaded package, it would be a good set up but $1500 would be a more reasonable price...maybe $2k if someone had $$ burning a hole in their pocket and wanted a 520 and the SPTs in seemingly pristine condition. Problem is with this knucklehead thinking they can fetch anywhere near $8k, the difference between asking price and reality is too big for meaningful negotiation...this person's going to need a few months of no fish biting to come down to reality.

I understand the thinking.

My mother bought a Pontiac Grand Prix GT when they first came out. She put many, many miles on that car but it never lost value (not in her mind).

Strangely, she might have been right. If I had it today, I could sell it for far more than she paid for it.

Now I don't believe this Shopsmith is in that same category except in the minds of the owners.
