Onlineshopclass.com
I have just received my latest shipment from Shopsmith. There was a card in it advertising http://www.onlineshopclass.com.
It Says "Onlineshopclass.com utilizes Shopsmith Equipment for many of the video projects available to members"
So, I just signed up for a trial membership ($11.00). Has any one else tried this site? I am currently having trouble with roadrunner, so I cannot tell you much about it yet. The repair man is coming tomorrow. I will have more to say about it later.

Wasn't Mike Cobb a SS employee? At least at first glance, this site does not knock this forum, or SS employees, etc., like Mike Young's site did. And SS is advertising on it, and distributing an advertisement for it with shipped orders. I just watched the "Mike Cobb test video". Man what a difference. I can view it from beginning to end. Unlike the SS ones. Now I have to wonder why that is?

larry,
I was a charter member but I have let my membership expire. A lot of changes (improvements) have been made (since I joined) and you may find it worthwhile. I made a choice. The Sawdust Sessions and woodworkingonline.com give me about all of the online training I have time for.
When I signed up for onlineshopclass.com there were no Sawdust Sessions. The Sawdust Sessions have proven to be much more appropriate (for me). I'll spend my $49 annual membership on shop tools.

Larry,
I was a charter member also and did the same as dusty for pretty much the same reasons. It all boils down to what ever floats your boat.

The link is in post # 1 http://www.onlineshopclass.com

I cant believe I've not seen woodworkingonline.com since it seems as if i'm always online at work............ I dont have a good ipod, however, my 20 gig is going to go to good use when I download all the videos from that site. I've got a poor net connection at home but cable at work. Is there a way to down load the shopsmith videos "for keep"?? Now its like i've got 35+ episode season of good woodworking to watch for me and the baby. **NOT TO MENTION, I RECEIVE SHOPNOTES AND WOODSMITH AT HOME!!!!! (I must be too sheltered)
The way I understand it (maybe someone will give you a link to the most recent post) you are free to view the Shopsmith videos - both the TIPS and the SAWDUST SESSIONS, anytime 24-7, but as for downloading - NO! You can't download the Shopsmith Videos at home. There will be some video disks, for sale at a later date.crousetrodomis wrote: Is there a way to down load the shopsmith videos "for keep"?? As for being too sheltered - Don't think so! There is just too much out there to see it all! In order to have a real life, we all have to make choices on what we can fit into our schedule. It really isn't a sin to miss out on something. I've found these Forum Folks will point out most of the interesting stuff.

I'll have to wait until I either get a better connection at home because my departments not allowed to have streaming video downloaded through a county computer network. I did however manage to watch the 2 I brought home today and am very impressed with woodsmiths videos. I'm clearing out my ipod now for sure.

crousetrodomis,
I viewed two of the woodworkingonline video today. I believed that I was downloading the videos, in fact I am sure because I periodically saw a screen notation telling what % had been downloaded.
Where are they? I find no indication of them on my computer.

Dusty, it sounds like you were only viewing them. This is the process to download them to file......for keepers!!!!
Since I have an old Ipod, I use the Windows format so they just stay on my computer at home. Here's what I do to download them.
1. Go to the WMA link for Windows media player and RIGHT click on the link.
2. You should be able to select the "Save Target As......." line on the menu that popped up.
3. Now if you are already on your home computer, just find a place for it to go like a folder that you dedicate only to woodworking. In my case, while at work, they are going directly to an old ipod because for short description, its a mobile 20 gig harddrive that just happens to have music listening software attached to it. When I get home, i'll connect the ipod to my computer and place them in my pre-made folder to keep them organized.
If you have cable internet, your looking (depending on your service area) very fast downloads for better than one hour videos. Broadband, slightly slower. Dial up-----maybe before your next birthday.
I suck at giving directions for computer stuff but thats the short story.
