Hi,

Don't mean to "but" in to your thread but since the chuck you have is for a 5/8" smooth-bore I'd be interested in hearing some feed back after you get some hours on it. Various threads here (mine included) have been discussing that the shopsmith shaft has a reverse taper and the effects of having or not having the set-screw with matching angle has any effects.

Did you ever get those pictures taken?

When I got mine it had a short set-screw was really loose in the "hole". This was due to using the wrong "fit" specification for the set-screw. This lead me to do several "improvements" as I had mention on the a fore mentioned thread.

My fix was to drill and tap for a standard shopsmith type set-screw and to do that at an angle that matched the standard shopsmith angle for things that mount on the shaft.

I few simple test would go a long way to knowing if this issue is fixed.

Hi,

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm attempting to find what PSI is producing at this time. I have a technical email in to them but I don't expect a reply for a couple of days.

If you don't mind we could wait until I get a reply and then perhaps there will be no tests needed....

I do like to keep up on things like this and I thank you for your postings.

So, the whole weekend, and following week, AND following weekend goes by, and not a moment to try out the new chuck, figures! I am really going to try to find time this week, but with Easter coming up (I am heavily involved in Church), one never knows. I did play with it inside, though. Ended up taking it apart, applying graphite to the threads to loosen it up just a tad, seemed tight in places. Tight uniformly I can live with (and maybe even prefer), but just practical thinking when starting out with a new piece of equipment. I promise to take pics.
