Hi, I picked up a SS (if I had to guess a 500) this past weekend for $500, a little more than I wanted to pay but the seller also included a brand new craftsman 13" planer, never used and an older stand alone band saw. The planer has to be worth at least 2 bills and the band saw at least a hundred.

Some surface rust (minor) and my first task will be to clean, polish and lube all over. I bought a SS new back in the lat 80's that I sold after I stopped using it. During the time I owned it I managed to lop off the end of my left thumb (ouch) so that had a little to do with getting rid of my original unit.

This time my oldest son is taking an interest in woodworking so I thought this would be a good thing for us to bond over. I'll post some pic's when I get the chance.

The accessories came in a box and look a little neglected, I'm going to try and see what's missing and whatnot. I'm pretty sure the sanding disk is AWOL and the miter gauge is in parts (not sure if the're all there).

Welcome to the forum!

We are not to far apart, when I coached traveling team soccer I remember being up that way a lot. Didn't see much of the town, just the soccer fields and some fast food places for after the games.

Since you have owned one before I'm sure you already know a lot about them but if you get stuck on something or wants some advice and rebuilding/clean/updating your machine this is a good place to start.

But then he has gotten a good lesson in that already!

Taking a break from my master bath remodel I looked over my Mark V.

Overall in fairly decent shape. There is no lower saw guard, I think I remember that it didn't come with one originally??

Since I picked up the Mark V I have also bought a jointer ($95) which looks almost new, a SS Shop Vac ($100) and some assorted pieces from ebay.

I think I want to get a lower saw guard, the upper guard looks like it's an upgraded Clear Saw Guard System so I'm hoping I can find the lower guard used or in the end but from SS.

Anything I should be on the lookout for?

As usual, we need pix! There have been different versions of the blade guards.

At this point 'we' are not even sure what version of the ss you have.

I'll take some pic's soon I promise.

I really got into this because of my oldest Son who has started to show an interest in woodworking and I'm not letting him use the SS until we can clean and perform maintenance on it. We're both usually too impatient to wait.

We're going to set up shop in our garage, starting from a blank canvas. (after we get all the crap out that is)

I spent a good 4 hours today cleaning and lubing my M5. I think it turned out okay if I say myself. There is a little rust on the bottom of the legs, I'm not sure what I'm going to do at the moment. I'm in theory splitting all this with my oldest son who has taken a recent interest in woodworking. I figure anything that gives us something to do together is a plus.

First project is to organize our shop formerly known as our garage.

The router and bandsaw were free to take when I bought the SS. I think they come close in value to what I paid for the SS by themselves, I suppose you can slice and dice many different ways.

Since the initial purchase I've added a jointer ($100) a SS shopvac ($100) and the miter fence shown in the picture ($52)

I see a bandsaw, a planer, and a miter gauge. Router? Jointer?

At first I thought you maybe paid too much, but, with the bandsaw and planer(router???), you dun gud!

Look in that box of 'neglected' stuff for a drill chuck and turning tools and tool rest and centers and tailstock. If you do not recognize anything, we still like pix(although they do not need to be so large(800x600 will usually do!;)).
