Static discharges with the SS dust collector

You can see in the last pic how the chips are mostly blocked from traveling down to the table.

No matter how effective some metal objects can be for static control, I am reminded of the DC3300 warning about allowing large or heavy objects to pass through the non metallic fan. Fan damage can be the result.

I have a Jet vacuum and on the system a barrel that collects larger parts before entering the Jet vacuum. When I am using my 2 1/2 hose as pictured on my SS planer, I have two 50 gallon barrels in the system. The fan on my Jet vacuum is cast iron, although it could be chipped by larger wood or mental parts and thrown out of balance. This is why I have one of the 50 gal. barrels next to the Jet to catch any heavier objects.

Well, if you followed this thread and made comments you know I had static electricity causing shavings to stick to my planed boards. I posted some pictures of it. One of you wrote in that I needed to add the planer dust chute bottom (SS part # 517920) to my planer dust chute. So I ordered it from SS and it came the other day. I planed some wood and what a difference it made - 99% pick-up. I did run my static collection wire to the chute bottom and I think that helped too.

I have always had a rather large accumulation of shavings that stuck to my planed boards but I never attributed it to static attraction. When done planing, I just tap the board and most of the shavings would fall off. A quick pass with a brush and they were gone.

I'll have to give this a try.
