One might guess that if you go to "bandsaw" on the chart and use the list to adjust the final speed setting that the machine now "knows" a bandsaw is installed and has a routine for that. But if you just use the speed setting to get to what you think is the proper speed then the program has no idea what is attached. Would it then react differently? I certainly do not know if that is a fact or not.
Like wise have have seen a well versed shopsmith seller say that the lathe reacts to "catches". How does it know that was a catch or something else happening? I could see that if you used the chart for lathe to do the set up but again if you just use the up/down power setting????
I'm like to know more about this but I don't believe we are going to get much out of shopsmith on the subject.

I admit my post was assuming of this. I admit to 'uninformed' conclusions as well.
I may be assuming too much.
It may very well be that all things are using the same parameters. Perhaps speed range alters the assumed parameters.
In any event it does monitor speed and torque demands by the load.
I assume the lathe catch reaction is the result of increased torque load(rapid speed deceleration).
I think the bandsaw has a 'problem' due to it's low torque load. I think the program tries to sense when less power is 'adequate' by gradually decreasing speed until it detects a change. Then it bumps the speed to get back. With a low torque situation, the detection will be slow and the bump excessive.
As you said, we really do not 'know' and all this is educated(hopefully) guessing.
