New to Shopsmith, first time post
Greetings to the group!
I've dabbled in woodworking over the years but decided I want to get more serious about it. I've been interested in finding a good used Shopsmith for several weeks and have been watching this forum for a couple of weeks for what to look for, questions to ask, etc relating to getting a used SS.
I'm happy to report that I found what I was looking for on Craigslist and brought it home yesterday! It is a 520 in very good condition (no rust on the bars or headstock, etc.) It is a 50th Anniversary edition. The serial number puts it manufactured in November of 2001 but you would not know to look at it that it is almost 13 years old. The seller advertised it as having the band saw included. I didn't know until I went to see it that is also had the belt sander that he didn't know he had! It also has the shaping tool, extra band saw blades and more. Many of the accessories have never even been out of the package!
I've got some things to buy (drill bits, hex wrenches, etc) but I've got a lot to learn before getting serious with it. I had to take the headstock and carriage off of the bench to get it in my truck. I'll be taking my time putting it back to together (starting with learning to wax the tubes.)
I gave the seller $2000 even for all of it. Maybe a little high but I thought it was a fair price.
I look forward to learning more from the group as I progress in this new endeavor.

Welcome!
Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the world of Shopsmith. Have you got a copy of Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone yet? You can find it online at the Shopsmith site, but it is really handy to have a copy in the shop. Read through it and you will be amazed at what your new toy is capable of!

Welcome to the forum!
It is always nice to have another member and especial one that is willing to post here.
I think it is safe to say that we have more answers then you have questions to ask.
As was mentioned if you add a location to your profile it is possible that you might be in the same town as other users and that could be a benefits of things like in person visits or sharing a part or procedure....
We also like pictures, lots of them or just a few.

Thanks for the welcomes! I thought I had it in my profile (but obviously I don't!) that I'm from Western Kentucky (Madisonville.) I see that JPG40504 is from KY also... cool!
Yes, the seller had "Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone" as well as the Instruction Manual and the "Shopsmith Mark V Self-Study Guide." That is how I plan to "learn as I go..."

Welcome,
Being yet a good bit green myself I gotta say that it sounds you’re off to a great start on several levels — Great tools, great learning materials and, last but not least, you’ve found your way to an inexhaustible well of creative, inventive and practical knowledge in this forum. Most every word posted will serve you well in one way or another.
Enjoy!

Beating BEEG to the punch, lubricate it 'now'.garys wrote:Get some wood and start cutting and building. You have thousands of hours of fun ahead of you. I got my Shopsmith from my Dad back around 1988, and it has been hard at work cutting wood since.
Now your fun begins.
