Here is an interesing, (As Paul Harvey would say.) Because of the MASSIVE buyouts a few years ago, GM and Chrysler were allowed to go bankrupt.
If your car was built before that threshhold, guess who gets holding the bill? If you said the car owner, you're right. Guess who else got the shaft? If you said, the common stock holders, again you're right.
Guess who came out smelling like an heirloom rose, if you guessed the unions, you win again.
Now, guess who is on the line for the repairs? If you said the American Public, you win first place. (Unless of course, you don't pay taxes!)
OH, which member here makes more than the CEO of GM or Chrysler? No one. Thought so. So, who gets the bill, with no vaseline? Yep, you guessed it.
And, I don't even own a car! But, I WILL be FORCED to pay!

Why didn't I see this one going political, too?
Remember, you can give a creditor 20 cents on the dollar and say, "So sorry, but that's all you're getting." You can't give a worker 20 cents on the dollar and expect him to show up for work the next day.
Also remember, GM is 100% government-free as of several months ago. Chrysler I think is mostly owned by Fiat. You, Skou, aren't on the hook for paying anyone's warranty repairs.

Everybody took haircuts of varying extents. Yeah, the shareholders got it worse than most. But it came out about as well as it could have. The union lost lots of jobs and traded pension payments for equity. Nobody came out smelling like a rose--heirloom or otherwise.Guess who else got the shaft? Also, remember, that GM and Chrysler had to reorganize into a financial institution that makes cars. They are no longer industries that offers loans on the side, but financial institutions that make cars on the side.
And, they are also citizens who have the right of free speech and the other privileges of the common man guaranteed by our constitution.
