Can't remove drive sleeve assembly

Post by RoyD »

I broke a Gilmer belt on my Mark V. I've about taken the machine apart and can't get the drive sleeve assembly out. I removed the Retaing ring and took the quill all the way out.

Can't remove drive sleeve assembly

Post by billmayo »

What method are you using to try to remove the drive sleeve assembly. It can be difficult sometimes and may need a hammer. You can use a long rod that will fit all the way to the inside end of the drive sleeve assembly, so the splines are not damaged. I use a piece of 1/2" rebar rod about 18" long where I grounded the raised points off on one end for about 3" so it fit snug inside the splined end of the drive sleeve assembly. A lot of of light taps on the rod will normally remove the drive sleeve assembly.

I also use the rod to install the drive sleeve assembly for keeping the bearings straight in the housing when installing the drive sleeve assembly.
