Video Download Helper addon for Firefox will help you download most videos. There are several others for both Firefox and Chrome. This is the one I have used for several years.

Here is another Firefox add-on/extension that works great for me because it is so simple to use:

Furthermore is not unusual for videos to be removed from YouTube by the poster or when it closes the account.
Remember old VCRs. : )

I hope this clarifies why somebody would save a video.
Yes it does. So inconsiderate of me. I don't travel anymore and when I did there was no internet available to me while traveling.

Since the thread is still here I guess we are OK to talk about getting videos off the web. And since some of them are OK to download I'll add some info here.

This is my favorite tool for that while using firefox:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... oadhelper/

The latest revision is 4.9.22.

If you are on the beta releases of firefox the interface gets broken for a lot of sites with version 32. I had to go back to the standard release, version 31 to get it working again.

Actually many videos on YouTube are from US archives open to anybody. I also like to listen in my travels to old radio programs, especially detective stories from the forties and fifties. Those are totally copyright free and can be freely downloaded from many sites.
It seems that in those years anything broadcasted became public domain but that obviously changed later.
Not that I crave for long travels but it comes with my job, at least for another 6 years until I retire : ))

Lots and lots of digitized books and audio programs at Internet Archives.

You just have to sort thru the chaff. Found a 1938 recording of "The Shadow" in just a few seconds. I've found numerous woodworking books. Even found a digitized version of my 1904 Edgar Allen Poe 10 volume set.

Back to some of the other discussion.

Yes, there are lots of options for capturing audio and video from the web. You do have to be careful of copyright issues on lots of things, but I always figured if it comes into my house, it's mine. Which way is best? The one that works for you is the best one for you.....

I understand I can get in trouble if I distribute copyrighted information to others, but as long as it's for my personal use........ Fer example: I can scan my copy of the ShopSmith Owner's manual and create a PDF. I can read that PDF on my own tablet, laptop, or desktop. I cannot post that PDF to a publicly accessible website (this forum) or send it to a friend via email, or CD, or hologram.

It may be ok with the mods to discuss ways to download videos in general. However, please note there is a very explicit copyright notice on the Sawdust Sessions videos. Putting a video on YouTube is not the same as putting it in the public domain.

Anyone viewed the video series by Nick Engler(available for purchase)?

He is an excellent presenter and I assume the video's would be equally good. Kind of expensive, but maybe worth it for a guy like me who picked up a couple of Mark V's on the brink of needing maintenance, and is very capable of hurting himself without education!

This youtube download tool works for me. https://youtubedownloader.com/
Works great and it is easy to use. I do not recommend breaking any copyright laws.
