Band Saw vibration/ wobble

Post by moggymatt »

When I use my Mark V mounted band saw, it always seems to have a the usual thump at the blade weld or extra wide tooth. I can fix it or live with that. But I also get a little back and forth wobble in the mount. Very little, but is that normal? How do I eliminate it?

When mounting any of the SPT's on the SS make sure that the screws in the locking handle are moving at the same amount. The screws should grab the SPT post with the same tension. If one is loose then there may be a wobble. Also a kinked blade will also cause a thumping noise or a wobble. The weld should have been ground flat at manufacture
If the weld was not properly ground you may be able to remove any excess with a file but too much filing may also weaken the weld so go slowly. This should be done with the blade removed from the machine.

Thank you JPG for the DUH moment. Something so simple that I didn't think of.

I'll be trying out that solution tonight! Looks like my new blades are set to be delivered to the house some time today. Not bad for being ordered last weekend.

another benefit

JPG's suggestion will also better tighten your end auxiliary tables: they won't slide down under pressure like they once did.

Now how do I know that?:D
