Well the weather forecasters were right, sorta. It was wet and cold (about 40-50 degrees colder than some of you from southern climes reported), right up to Thursday. Friday was nice and sunny so it was off to the market for more plants and seed. This time mainly for the vegetable garden. Got home in time for lunch and our noon hour "soap", then on to .... well the rain started again. Just enough hard enough and long enough to ruin our plans. Saturday and Sunday we got back on schedule.
I'm happy to say I finished one project (painting a metal garden arbour) on the official to-do list.
On the woodworking side, I bit the bullet and bought some dressed poplar to start on the charging station. Scrounged around in my scraps pile until I found enough maple to make the other parts and did some resawing as it calls for 1/2" wood. Once again praising my Kreg bandsaw fence.
While scrounging in the scraps pile I spotted a piece of oak that was just thick enough and long enough for a breadknife so I got the pattern out, cut it to shape and did some preliminary sanding. Then I put it aside for a "rainy day"
The stable is still in the planning stages much to my dear wife's chagrin.
Oh yeah, it is Monday and raining.
I hope you all had a good holiday weekend.
Have a Safe and Fun week!

Hi guys,
Spent a week on vacation in the sunny south visiting Mickey Mouse and his friends with several of our kids and our 2-1/2 yr old grandson. What a great age; he considered the ride in from the parking lot on the tram as good as any ride in the theme park
.
While there I spotted a teddybear dressed in a pirate costume that I hope will become part of a pirate ship toy box, also my grandson's interest in the monorail system at Disney World has me thinking about making a wooden toy version to go along with his wooden railway set.
Needless to say not much actual woodworking was done last week but I did manage to finish up making and installing the top cap on the Family Room wainscoting. Hopefully it will get its last coat of paint this week in anticipation of installing the new hardwood floor next weekend. I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel on this project, I just hope it isn't an oncoming train!
John, once again you are applying the pressure, starting mutiple projects that I have no doubt you will finish beautifully and quicker than I could even dream of. I had seen the charging station project in Woodsmith, so I have some idea what to expect, but the stable project should be real interesting!
I hope everyone had a good holiday and took at least a moment to remember that freedom isn't "free" and give a quiet word of thanks to those who made it possible.
Have a great week everyone!

Sounds like you had a lovely Memorial Weekend. I stained the new mantle for my daughter, gave it a few coats of shellac, and spent the afternoon mounting it. With the help of my 6 year old granddaughter, it came out just perfect. Then went over to one my son's home to see how the kitchen remodel is going. It started with new cabinets, then expanded to removing walls, windows, relocating the AC, and today I helped remove the fireplace trim. Should be beautiful when he finishes. Now that the mantle is out of my workshop, I can start making sawdust again. Looking forward to playing again this week. We did make a point of giving our prayers for those who have served, and those now serving our country.

Hi Folks! Got so confused about what week it is - had to go back and read last week's so not to repeat.
Weather ruled the roost around here this week. Got back from AZ Saturday evening and temperature was 105 Degrees. Sunday, was HOT! (not used to it) 106. Too hot to be in the shop because hadn't yet cleaned the A/C. Got it all cleaned up on Tues. Sorted scrap and threw out some on Tues. and Wed.
Thurs. and Fri. the Temps fell around 20 degrees - at least. Low Temp on Saturday night was 38 - high 65.
Got my share of landscaping done on Sunday - Trimming bushes and flower bed.
Will start on the next shutter tomorrow. Only 10 more to do! (I think!)

Dennis:
I have been to visit Mickey twice but never with children which I'm sure would make the experience doubly fun. Several of the grandkids have gone and listening to them describe it was fun in it'self.
Don't let the multiple projects impress or scare you. It's just a function of my ADD (self diagnosed). Example; go to scrap pile for maple for charging station, find oak, make bread knife, oh yeah Need Maple!:D
Now that Chuck fella really takes on projects.
Have fun
