Looks like I might have been wrong. I did some quick searching on the 10ER Yahoo group and found this statement in an old post:
"there are some machines licensed to Australia. (All of them I've seen were painted red, though.)"
Looks like there's at least one machine discussed there with the "Made in Australia" badge. And there's at least one user there that is in Australia. So it might benefit you to join the Yahoo 10ER Group.

It odd, that when you to the ER serial # site page one in the first column it sez Australia. I dont know what the significance of that is though.

Its interesting that the other Australian machines reported for that chart have an A prefix to the serial number, but there's no A prefix on this one.

do you have any info/thoughts on that Australian designation? I notice that B4 but thought those may have been ERs made to export to Australia. Now after seeing this thread and that motor, any possibility the first ones were made there and imported back here for selling? This day in age, it would not surprise me, but back in 1947ish that seems odd if they did that.

I really don't think the first machines were made there and imported back. But it is interesting that the Australian machines have such low serial numbers. Looking at megastevo81's logo plate and comparing what's left of it it to my 10E logo plate, it looks identical including the "San Francisco, California, U.S.A." in the upper right quadrant (that text is between the 12:00 and 3:00 clock positions). So I'm really thinking they were manufactured in the US, shipped to Australia, assembled and the motor added there.rbursek wrote:Heath,

Another Australian machine with the jointer headrest (and mounted backwards too). And a 10E logo plate, but 10ER upgrades (the fence, table raiser arm, spring lever on table trunnion). I wonder if that was standard on the Australian machines? I wonder how many Shopsmiths were "Made in Australia." What kind of switch is that? Is it a push/pull switch or does it turn like a knob? Is it common in Australia? Is it common anywhere else?
