Confessions of a new addict.

Post by eartigas »

Well, finally the 10ER bug bit me hard and I started with this "bargain". This one was followed by a $200 one with speed changer, jigsaw and lots of accessories that I will describe and ask for advice later. Tomorrow, if all works well, I'll pick the third one but I will have to make some though decisions as I have no space to move around in my garage anymore.
With some through follow on posts I will be asking a few questions and probably start a thread in maintenance as I do have some questions as well.
With the 10ER I got some non 10ER accessories that I find most interesting. See photos in thi one and the follow on ones.
Belt Sander, non Shopsmith, but have you seen one before?

The driver and idle drums look aluminum but are wood.

Then this most unusual sanding disk:

I also got a Craftsman flexible shaft. Very rugged and seems heavy duty; with original box and manual.
More findings from my new 10ER will follow.

And a piece of history, used to protect some US made lathe chisels:

I also got many accessories in a WWII box:

The rest, mostly questions probably better belong in Maintenance and Repair so, I'll post them there.

My wife is confused since she can't distinguish between 10er number 1, 2 or 3 so I have managed to look like I have only 2 :)) by hiding away one and by now the first two are disassembled in boxes in my shed and only one is visible so I can start with it.
I will have to let go to one or two mark5 and a jointer so my garage will be usable for actual work again.

I hope this is my last machine for a long time and I should stay away from Craigslist as a part of the "addiction treatment"

I am in Italy right now and after watching a few downloaded videos in the plane, took out my 10Er printed manual and read it end to end.

I am still looking for one of the PTWE of the 10ER version.

So I'll miss this weekend away from my machines but next weekend I'll be back strengthened with all the pasta I'll be eating here.

Thanks for the suggestions and manuals.

Ed, keep looking on Ebay for the ER version of PTWFE. I found one there, for $1.50 plus shipping. If I didn't already have one, it would have been mine.

Oh, if it is the 3rd edition, and 1953 printing date (or earlier) it is the ER edition.

I've spent more than $60 for one, just so you know. (My current one came, delivered, with an ER, for $150.00.)

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

I may have found one for $11 shipping included. It said 1953 edition in the offer (amazon) but I'll keep my fingers crossed until it gets home and I get home to open the package.
