quill and drive assembly alignment

Post by wbbauchat »

I replaced the drive assembly bearings in my Mark V. Now, the shaft does not line up with the quill. It will not fit inside the quill anymore. It appears that the shaft bumps against the top of the quill instead of sliding into it. Is this a bearing problem or is there an adjustment on the quill itself? Thanks for taking the time to read my question.

It is the quill shaft that must 'align' with the drive assembly. The quill shaft has considerable ability to 'wobble' at that end. Also the splines must align to the coupler.

The coupler must be forced onto the drive shaft until it snaps into place. There is a 'ring' spring inside the coupler that seats in a groove around the drive assembly shaft. If the coupler is not seated, it will interfere with the upper end of the quill body.
