My dust collector is making an odd sound. The motor is making a bit of a high pitched sound. The suction is still there, but seems a little weaker. I have been careful about not sucking in anything but sawdust. I removed the filter and shook out the dust. I also put on a new plastic collection bag for good measure.
Any thoughts?
Is it safe to take apart the internal housing to look for obstructions?
DC3300 dust collector issue..

Re: DC3300 dust collector issue..
You may have to open it to find what is going on. High pitch could be anything up to and including a bearing. (bearing is doubtful) Might be a piece of debris on the impeller and scuffing on the housing. SS says a roaring sound is an indication of a worn impeller. I am not sure if that motor uses ball bearings or sleeve bushings but I am sure someone here will know.
My collector was making a whistling sound when I first got it and it turned out that the seal between the housing halves was puckered and the resulting hole caused a whistle sound.

It is very safe to look inside the 3300 if the power cord is removed from the power outlet.
The first place to look is behind or in the intake manifold. The manifold can be removed with 4 screws. Also check your hose(s). The next place to look is the outlet - inside the machine. It is elongated and narrow - a good place to hide an obstruction.
Now you can check to see if the nut holding the fan has come loose. Look into the intake hole after the manifold has been frmoved. I think I remember a Keyway - Hope that is intact.
