Spiders in the Workshop

How do you prevent spiders making webs in your workshop?

I have gone around mine and attempted to seal every crack I could find. I've caulked around doors and windows, run a bead of silicone around the sill where the wood meets the concrete floor but still the spiders get in. When I am in the shop every day I can keep them down but every day I find a new web somewhere.

I have sprayed bug sprays around the shop and around doors and it seems to work for everything EXCEPT spiders. Any help would be appreciated.

I moved into a new to us house a couple years ago. Being an older home, we have always had an exterminator come out twice a year for treatments (ants, mice, bugs etc). One the first treatment in the basement I too had spiders, many many years worth from the previous owner.

I was told that a few treatments would take care of the problem and he was correct. A couple of years later and semi annual treatments my shop is now spider free.

Not sure what they spray, but I'd be willing to bet that "we" can't get the stuff at the local hardware store.

Good luck - spiders seem to be able to get in anywhere. A few years ago, I was talking to a colleague about spiders. He told me that he once worked for a company building satellites in a (large) clean room, and every now and then a mysterious spider web would show up even in there.

We live in the country. a few years back the farm people brought

in the infamous Asian beetles to eat the aphids off the soybean leaf.

well, the beetles did not do a good enough job. They started using a

spray called (Tempo) to kill the aphids. Now, we have a big beetle problem.

outside the house, inside the house..had to vacuum them up.. Went to the farm supply store and bought some Tempo......... $50.00 for one pint but, mixed 2oz. per gallon. Knocks em dead, and also the spiders and other bugs.

Sprayed around foundation and up under bottom row of siding. That was about

nine years ago. Still get a few beetles but, no spiders. It kind of makes me wonder how powerful that stuff is.. First tried some stuff call Home Defense from the big box store. Did absolutely nothing to kill the bugs.

check with a farm supply store and see if you can still buy it..........

We have chickens as were out in the countryside. Bugs are down in general. The shop get a few spiders but not as many as BC (before chickens).

I had a severe problem with "Fiddlebacks" not only in the shop, but also in the house. I had a neighbor that worked for Orkin Pest Control that turned me on to Talstar. Mix it 1 ounce to the gallon and spray around the perimeter of your shop lightly. No more spiders. It's a residual and lasts for several months. You can get it at Amazon.

It's slower but safe... I use food grade diatomaceous earth (DE) for much of my bug control. You can Google it. Dust it into corners etc.

I think I found a solution. I believe my problem stems from the belief that the spiders don't contact the areas that I have sprayed. Even though I sprayed around all of the doors and the perimeter of my basement, somehow some spiders bypassed that path and got in. Once in, they hang around the ceiling, behind cabinets, under equipment, etc. I tear down the webs when I am working but they build them back when I'm gone. We have played this game for a long time and up till now the spiders have been winning.

It seems the solution was to find a way that killed the spiders where they were hiding. I found a product called Raid Fumigator that fills the space with a spider killing fog. I did this about a week ago and haven't been running into new webs since. Don't know how long it will last, but for now it seems my problem is solved.
