My Brothers and Sisters;
After i return from a couple of weeks of travel, i plan to start restoration of my Grandpap's 10ER. I have the legs, casters, etc. Im going to use Oak planks from his barn to make the Table portion, but i do not know the length and with of that platform upon which the machine sits. I am going to add 2 inches of height as I am 6'6" tall. But i hope to do a restoration that even make MickyD proud...lol. any advice on doing this restoration would be greatly appreciated.

There was a fellow in England a few years back that raised his and he added shallow drawers in that space. Since you are doing yours over, you have lots of options.
Do take lots of pictures and post them of your progress. I feel certain that some forum members will have thoughts to contribute along the way from their own experiences, and we will learn from yours as well.

I've restored a couple of ERs. The last one I did was really rusty. I used Kool Aid unsweetened lemonade, mixed at double strength (no sugar) on the cast iron parts. I soaked them for a day or two and it did an amazing job removing the rust, and it's cheap! Amazing with the lemonade. I've used apple cider vinegar to clean rust but never though about lemonade.
Did you use the little individual packets or the larger bulk container and approx. how much to a gallon of water or a 5 gal. bucket???

Cheaper than Evaporust, I'm betting. Is it the citric acid in the lemonade that does the trick or something else?

I used the small envelopes of KoolAid. I think the larger containers already have sugar in them. No sugar = no sticky mess.
I mixed it at about 1.5x to 2x the strength recommended for making a cool, refreshing pitcher to drink. I suspect it is the citric acid that does the trick, but who knows. As you can see in my picts, it works really well on the cast iron painted parts, but less so on the bare steel parts. EvapoRust seems like a better choice for them.
