bandsaw blade size

Post by brianvw »

Hello, I saw it posted somewhere that the SS bandsaw takes a 72" blade. I've seen several other sizes available at the big box stores that are 72- 7/16"(Bosch) and another on Ebay that is 71-3/4" (Olson). Will these work with the SS?

In a word "yes". At least for the Olsen. For the Bosch "?" SS specs 72" +/- 1/2". Just remember that when you lengthen the blade the upper wheel will ride closer to the top of the frame to achieve tension. The Bosch seems to be about 1/16" out of range.

Why mess with it. The 72" blades are readily available. Using anything different will tend to mess of the tension scale too. That is no big deal but it is an indicator that the blade is not the specified size.

Sure of that?

It will change the adjusting screw position, but not the indicator.

BTW 72 7/16 is smaller than 72 1/2. ;)

I have used the Bosch blades and seem to work fine.
