I have an old Craftsman drill press (60's era) that I used for pressing the bearings on. Rather than investing in tools that you may only use once I would use the services of a good machine shop or a lawn mower repair shop. They do a lot of bearing services on mower decks etc.

Bill V,

That's why I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to use the arbor press, specifically, for pressing the bearings on a Shopsmith. The arbor press would be more useful for other shop projects in the future such as pen turnings and bending metal.

The other options work, yes, but will this thing work and has anyone ever used one to do their bearing replacement? Lots of good advice from everyone and I appreciate your input.

Check with Bill Mayo through this forum. Bill uses the HF bearing remover but he also does a lot of rebuilds as well.
