Vacation continuing for a while...

I apologize for the abrupt way that I declared my hiatus earlier.

JPG had little to do with it; rather, I was (am still?) in a funk over the loss of a very dear friend to cancer. I struggled with him for a year and a half almost daily and was devastated by his passing - even though it was inevitable.

On JPG: I told him that he has probably forgotten more about SS than I will ever know ( ) so please don't assess any blame to him.

See you later when I get my head straightened out.

Dear Forrest,

I am truly and deeply sorry for your loss.

Cancer killed the greatest person I ever knew, my Dad. It has also claimed some of my best friends.

Yet, I am survivor of stage 3C colon cancer for 8 years now (May be why I look at the world so differently now).

Cancer is insidious! It robs us of those we hold dearest and leaves us wondering why.

Forrest, my friend in woodworking, I not only send my condolences to you for the loss of your dear friend, but wish to pass along a bit of my experience.

I am a cancer survivor. Lucky and continuing every day thankful that it is gone (even temporarily). During the throes of diagnosis and treatment, I witnessed the pain and concern of those I love - including a couple very good friends and fraternity bros. During this time I could not help but regret the pain these folks were witnessing. One of my largest concerns was that some of them would have devastating sorrow at my death in this world. I tried the best I could to instill the fact that everything would be O.K. no matter the outcome.

The very biggest thing I wished is - everyone would only celebrate the good times and not the loss.

Please accept this memo as it was intended and here are my best positive wishes.
