I wonder why I am not scheduling a quick trip to Sacramento. That is an exceptional deal for $3000. It won't last long.

BUT, AGAIN there is the question of warranty. Actually it is not so much the warranty but rather what will it cost to make headstock repairs if something should go wrong. When an out-of-warranty headstock breaks, there is very little that can be done to fix it without relying completely on Shopsmith.

Does anyone know what Shopsmith charges to repair a PowerPro headstock if say the control board fails? OR the motor?

As an example of potential cost: Scroll Saw Speed Control Box 514736 (#138) $324.53 (plus shipping). Have you looked to see what is in this?

Well, the price of a DIY PowerPro upgrade kit would definitely establish an upper bound on the parts cost ...

This is the same control box used on the Thickness Planer. A very simple AC to DC converter with out any safety or prevention features. My guess would be about $25 in parts in these boxes. I do have a good spare one available if anyone is looking for this control box ((514736). I can take a picture of it as I have an opened control box with all parts showing if anyone is interested, not many parts. I have not tested it to see why it was disassembled. I accepted it on a trade-in. I did use a KB Electronic controller board (safety and protection circuits) in a box (Around $200) for one planer I rebuild. This was cheaper than the factory price.
