Trivet Making Jig

I'm laying out the Trivet making jig that was in Sawdust Sessions Nov. 12, 2007 and posted on YOU TUBE Feb 18 2013. My question is how would one cut the 6 inch square for the trivet blank. I was thinking of using my plunge router with a pattern and a template guide with a spiral bit then square up the corners with a chisel. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I'm confused. I see Sawdust Session #7, Nov. 10, 2007 and Sawdust Session #8, Nov. 24, 2007, bu no session for Nov.12, 2007. Just what Sawdust Session # are you referring to? Would you have a link to the youtube video you refer to?

IIWM, I would not square the corners, but rather relieve them(drill a hole at the intersection[before routing]).
