BS blade tensioning.
How can I tell if my part#12 502690 Tension Indicator Scale is set correctly? I think I'm getting too little tension on that scale.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.

The procedure is on page 12 and 13 of the bandsaw manual. If you don't have the manual there is one posted on the SS website. Procedure is quite simple.

I go by the rule no matter the band saw, and dont trust the scale, and it depends on the size as far as a 1/4 or 3/8 1/2 ect, flick it with your finger like a qetuar string, if it hums it is right.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

I just tighten a bit, turn it on and continue to tighten 'til the blade quits fluttering.
PS...Since the cover needs to be on while the BS is running, I drilled a hole in the case for access for the hex wrench.

I can't get a single one of my band saw blades to hum. When I pick mine like a guitar, they all twang. But that is NOT how I adjust tension. I do it like Gene Howe suggests.
