In your pix it looks like the quill stop dial is set to 3". Does the dial markings go to 4"++. Determine how to release the quill stop, then see if there is another stop.

In that case the 'final' stop must be found. May be 'inside'. The quill may be entirely different.

If I combine a Mark 2 and a Mark 5, is the result a Mark 7?

Thanks to Paul (masonsailor) for the inspiration to finally hang my drill press on the wall. I love it. I still have some bracing I want to do, for peace of mind, even though I think it's secure. Then I want to turn that corner of my shop into a hanging tool and small bench area, now that I have a little more more room.

Yessir JP! Best $40 I ever spent. In addition to the frame for my wall mount DP, now I've got a nice 500 table and trunnion for my upcoming sanding station. I still need a fence. I'm glad to get the older aluminum 12" sanding disk, always wanted one of those. The big surprise bonus is the working Mark 2 headstock. I'm not sure what I'll do with that. The 8 blue-handled Wards Power Kraft lathe chisels will probably will sit in a box anther 30 years.

The Mark 2 table is slightly smaller than a '500'. Good enough for a 'sander'. The Mark 2 headstock would serve that well.

Thanks Paul. And thanks also to Steve "cooch". And Francis Robinson. All of who's designs helped me clarify what I wanted. And of course thanks for technical help from JPG. And everyone else who threw in an opinion. That's what makes this list what it is. Someone asked on another thread if they should get a Shopsmith. Well, get a Shopsmith and you get free almost 24x7 technical support from an enthusiasic, diverse and talented group like this. Not to mention one heckuva good machine.

I do plan to add some additional support down to the concrete to take the load off the 4 lag bolts that hold everything to the 2x4s. Even though everything is still rock solid now, I just don't think four is enough. I find myself going out to the shop to verify the whole shebang is still on the wall . The headstock is heavy. So is the table. I've been taking the table off when not in use.

You used a bunch of screws attaching the 2x4s to the wall at the lower base point. They would serve better near the top ends.

2x4 stubs from the floor to the lower base will take some weight off the lag screws.

I do like your idea!!!
