Trim router but a rotary tool would work too.rpd wrote:jgrounds wrote:Working on a project the requires nice square ends on PVC pipe. Came up with this jig.

I gotta ask .. why not use a 12" sanding disk and a miter gauge fence on your SS?

Or a large enough sliding miter saw. (12inch Dewalt)
Re: Squaring PVC Pipe Ends
The safety grip has a capacity of 4 1/4 inches. The outside diameter of 4 inch PVC is 4 1/2 inches.BuckeyeDennis wrote:I gotta ask .. why not use a 12" sanding disk and a miter gauge fence on your SS?
I do not have the luxury of owning any of the other machines mentioned but why bother, they would take all the fun out of making the jig

I remove the clamp bar from the safety grip when using the miter gauge with tall items. And also when installing my rather tall shop-made miter extension, although I can put it back on after the extension is in place. Just one set screw to loosen, and the "Shopsmith tool kit" fits it.

Yes, all alternative suggestions aside, it was informative to see original thinking and to have it shared!!!
