transfer punch set
stopped at Harbor Freight to today to get a few things.
Got a transfer punch set 3/32" to 1/2" (28 piece set). sure will make it easier transferring holes to another piece/s. Better than trying to use a pencil or a center punch in the hole to mark in on the other piece and always being off just a little.

I've had a set for long while and use them often. They are really handy and I'm sure you will enjoy your set.

Have the same set. 12 bucks well spent! Transferring holes was never easier. Also use them to fix oopses when making pens.

Re: transfer punch set
I picked up a set this afternoon, and already have a good use for them. Thanks for posting!!!
Re: transfer punch set
Never having used a transfer punch, I am curious as to the possible uses.
I understand that a punch shaft can be inserted through a hole of a certain size to mark the exact spot to drill another hole, but where and why is this tool used.
Please explain to this old guy!

They appear but are not always noted in posts I've done. Two that come to mind are:

And a recent one:

Some people like me have used these for years, perhaps picked up when I was working in a machine shop back in the late 1960's, it has been so long I don't even remember. You know I think it may have even been before that now that I'm remembering using them to mark gaskets when working on cars and motorcycles....... whoooo that is a long time ago.
Some people substitute brad point drill bits which works too but not as nice as the punches.

Think pattern and several 'blanks'.charlese wrote:Never having used a transfer punch, I am curious as to the possible uses.

The pattern is positioned over a blank, the punch is inserted into the hole in the pattern, and struck. The dimple in the center of the transfer punch makes a ding in the blank. The pattern hole is sized to the punch. The final hole may be an entirely different size from the pattern hole.
It allows locating the center of a hole with a pattern or a mating part.

A recommendation: Telling us what you got and how wonderful it is is okay. However, one picture, just one would help. Taking pictures and posting them is mice nuts on this site. So, instead of asking us to figure out what your acquired send a picture. Sort of like telling us that you hung out last night with a gorgeous babe compared to posting a picture with the two of you side by side (if she truly was gorgeous) not just attending a Clinton rally.
