Dead center off?

Post by Jeepmiller09 »

Being a new with the Shopsmith how do I take the dead center off and replace it w the love center I have? Looked all over this place and YouTube but no luck. Once the live center is in how do I make sure it matches up with the other end?

Thanks

Tap the outside end of the dead center with a mallet or use a block of wood and a hammer.
To check alignment, slide the headstock over to the right and see if the point on the drive center matches up with the point on the dead/live center.

Thank you for the advice! I had to full remove that entire piece the 2 nuts the sleeve and the dead end and let spray WD40 on it to free it from the grip of the rust! It gave a good fight but I won in the end. The new live center matches up perfectly with the headstock! To bad i am tearing it all down right now to really polish up the pipes! Can't wait to finish turning my cup i started!

How is the tear down and re-assembly coming? You said it all started as you set out to make a cup.

Did you take pictures along the way? Please post some when you can.
