All of the comments and suggestions that have been made regarding my out of square drawers have been very helpful. Charlese' input on lumber selection and preparation is especially important, and doubly so if someone is setting out to create an heirloom.
But with it all said and done, I believe that the majority of my problems are in clamping techniques. After making sure all my dadoes and rabbets were of equal depth, that all of them were properly oriented and that the bottoms were correct size and square - I still assembled drawers that are slightly out of square.
When I first assembled each one, I checked them from square (diagonals equal) and set them aside to cure. I did however recheck all of the clamps and tightened three or four of them a little. I suspect that those are now wracked out of square where they shall have to stay. Now real bad but not show quality by any means.
Maybe, just maybe, by the time I get around to building the drawers for my shop, I'll have this process down pat.
Why Isn't It Square
