Maybe some one can come up with a song "50 steps to mounting a blade" so we can all do it right by just singing the song in our heads as we work.

This all reminds me of a writing class I took where you had to describe in detail how to draw a certain shape(everyone had a different shape) on a black board (I know I'm dating myself). In class another student was picked to use your instructions and do the drawing. All the other students except you were to make sure nothing but the instructions were followed.

The first few were brutal and done by the instructor. What sound like a piece of cake assignment turned out to be all but. The point was well made and I learned a great deal from that.

The point here is we assume some basic level of understanding of our subject and some basic instructions are not going to be covered every time a new issues comes up. Since using tools can be a dangerous proposition we fall back on the PBS standard of reading and understanding the manufacturers instructions/manuals. They have taken the time to do a reasonable job for legal reasons and for keeping the customers they have buying tools I guess can be added but in general we all want to do the right thing.

The problems/issue we have hear can most often be solved with a bit of reading of the manual and the PTWFE, we the forum should be the second source for solving them and so maybe we gloss over a few details, after all we are not doing this for money just love of woodworking and shopsmith tools so we have to be forgiven for a few slip ups.

About the only time we stop learning is when we choose to stop. Asking questions is our request for continued learning. You ask questions and we have to all ask ourselves the same question before we can answer. Pretty much a win win.

So at some point we have to make assumptions and at some point we have to hope that what has been given is enough to have answered the question(s).

So have we covered everything saw blade arbor wise?

Well there is the 'optional' mounting direction.

i.e. Which end of the arbor goes onto the quill shaft first. (only with the older 1 1/4" arbors). Nut end first.

All(?) others only one way.
