Interesting that SawStop sued Bosch over this.........

Anyway I'm not in the market for one but find it interesting to keep up on some of these things.

I was able to see it in operation at Bosch demo which came through the state last year. At that time they said I could put one on order with "possible" delivery in the fall. I did like the placement of switches and parts used in conjunction with the saw (they let us touch and move knobs and such without the blade running). The fence leaves a lot to be desired but I liked the ergonomics.
The rep sad it would be about a year before they released a hybrid. He said he no idea if they were going to put the system into a cabinet saw. I guess that means it will probably be June 2017 before the hybrid is released.
What I liked was that the blade wasn't toast when the safety tripped. Just flip the cartridge, release the lever and you are ready to roll.

I have not seen this product yet but I do have some questions. When the pin fires it dislodges a clip that holds the blade arm in place if I interpret the info correctly and the blade drops below the table. Is the blade free spinning while it it below the table? What stops the blade. What is the reaction of the system? Saw Stop claims that the blade drops below the table in 5 milliseconds (0.005 seconds).
I would like to see some more details about the system first.
We recently suffered an amputation in our community wood shop and we now have to seriously consider going to this type of technology. We are considering Saw Stop but will have to consider this brand also.

If another company is looking at this without licensing from sawstop then others are likely working on designs as well. Some of this will be resolved when the lawsuit plays out. If there is wiggle room in the process then we might see a few other designs coming out.

So maybe track saws are going to win out in the long run?

So who is going to make the first routerstop? Jointerstop? drillstop? Right now you can buy cars that stop themselves........

The blade dropped so quick!! but was it less than .05 seconds I don't know. The rep did quote times,and somewhere I have the spec sheet they handed out. The rep did not say there would be no damage to a finger, but at the most just a small nick.
The power to the saw immediately went off and needs to be reset at the on/off switch before the saw will start again. How long the blade continued to rotate, I could not say but I think the system has a motor brake that stops rotation very quickly when there's no power. It's been since the Fall, but I going to guess that there was no noise coming from the saw (not even the sound of the motor shaft rotating) in less than a second. They showed us the cavern the blade was in and it was deep enough you would have to try hard to get a finger in there. If I remember correctly, he used the arbor nut wrench to pull the blade back up.

Yes it has a common problem with those dastardly RAS.

The description(yesterday post) stated the inertia of the blade assisted it it dropping, so braking would be delayed.
