It seems one could probably go to Tandy leather (or other leather supplier) and by an appropriate piece of hide. Using a strip cutter, a skiving knife, and some contact cement (and/or good stitching), one could make their own, and have material for replacements regularly.

So far I have been using a piece of leather glued to scrap of 2x4 for honing.
Thanks for the link and source. I've been wanting to get one.

"Humble" means opportunity does exist for anyone thinking it needs to be altered! ;)

Different from 'that's my story and I'm sticking to it'.

I've not used one on a sander but back when I owned the shoe repair shop I was using a finishing machine that was driven by long leather flat belts from 1.5" to 3" wide and about .25" thick. Sometimes if I wanted to touch up an edge on a knife or other cutter I would touch it to one of those belts. I kept a stick of buffing compound laying on a shelf on it. I didn't do it a lot because my many knives were usually kept with more of a "wire" edge which cuts rubber and leather better. Some of the belts were spliced with steel alligator grippers. You don't want to try to sharpen on those. :D :D :D Most were spliced with a lapped bevel glued splice.
